Foster Application Process

Our foster application process consists of the following steps: 

1. Submission of an online application.

2. Volunteer review of your application, including a background check of all adults living in the home, a landlord check if applicable, and a veterinary check for any current or previous pets if applicable.

3. Phone interview with a volunteer to discuss your application and our foster program.

4. In-person home visit with a volunteer to ensure your home environment is safe for a dog.

Once all the steps above are completed and your assigned volunteer provides approval, you’re ready to foster one of our dogs.

Foster Requirements

To ensure our dogs are safe and happy while waiting for their forever homes, please make sure you meet all the requirements below prior to applying to foster. 

• Fosters must be at least 21 years of age.

• All current pets in the home must be altered, up to date on the rabies and distemper vaccine, up to date on their annual heartworm test, annual wellness exam, and receive monthly heartworm and flea/tick prevention. Failure to pass the veterinary check will result in an immediate denial of your application.

• We welcome fosters within a 30 mile radius of our primary veterinarian partner in Burtonsville, Maryland. 

• Fosters must be able to transport their foster dog to our approved veterinarian partners in the Montgomery County area for routine visits and/or emergency care if necessary.

• Our Insurance requires all volunteer fosters to take the following free online courses. You will need to create a free login.  A certificate will be issued at the end of the course that will be kept in the volunteer’s file, so make sure you save the certificate:

• Our Insurance requires all Volunteers helping Tasca's Love Cooperative in any capacity, including fostering, to read/comprehend/follow and sign the Hold Harmless Agreement in this Link
